Pay It Forward While You Shelter At Home

While the news is usually full of doom and gloom, I am really enjoying all of the stories showing the positive acts happening right now during the COVID-19 crisis. I am seeing videos of random acts of kindness, “pay it forward” games, fundraisers and drives for first responders, and acts of appreciation popping up all over my newsfeed.

People are donating their time and talents to create face masks and protective equipment for healthcare workers, hospital departments are buying lunch for other hospital departments and “tagging” them to do the same for another department, celebrities are performing free video concerts and donating millions of dollars to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. However, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to pay it forward and help others.

Here are some ideas to “Pay it Forward” while you shelter at home.

1. Order dinner from a local business – your family gets a great meal, and you are supporting the business and livelihood of a family and their employees in your community.

2. Send a card or care package to a friend or family member – let those you love know how much you care about them, and encourage them to write a note to one of their friends or relatives.

3. Send a kind message – You don’t even need to spend any money to make another person feel good. Record a video of yourself with a kind message, and send to someone you care about, and have them pass on their own video to someone else. You can even do this through Facetime.

Giving and receiving kindness has shown to boost serotonin, which makes people happy. It is important to have a positive mindset during these trying times. No matter how big or how small, as long as it comes from the heart, it counts!

Be Well!
